Boon Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Boon ("Boon," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use the Boon mobile application (the "App"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
Boon is a driver-assistance tool for gig-economy workers (e.g., Uber, Bolt, Lyft, DoorDash, and similar platforms) that reads job-offer information already visible on your device screen and displays an on-screen evaluation. Boon is designed around a "read-only, on-device" architecture: wherever possible, data stays on your phone and is never transmitted to us.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Screen Content via Accessibility Service
Boon uses the Android Accessibility API to read text that is already displayed on your screen while a supported driver app is in the foreground (for example, fare, distance, pickup time, and passenger rating shown in an incoming job offer). This is the same category of API used by screen readers and accessibility tools.
Boon only reads text; it does not click, tap, swipe, fill in fields, dismiss dialogs, or take any action on your behalf.
Screen text is processed in memory on your device to detect and score offers. It is not saved as a screenshot, recording, or raw transcript, and it is not transmitted to our servers.
The Accessibility Service only reads content while it is actively evaluating an offer during an active shift; it does not run when the App is not in "scanning" mode.
1.2 Screen Capture via MediaProjection
On devices or app configurations where the Accessibility Service alone cannot reliably read offer text, Boon may request the Android system's screen-capture permission (MediaProjection) as a fallback capture method.
Before this permission is requested, Boon shows you a full-screen, plain-language disclosure explaining that screen-reading will begin and how to control it.
The system-level "Start recording or casting" confirmation from Android itself always appears in addition to Boon's own disclosure — this is an Android OS safeguard we cannot remove or bypass.
Captured frames are analyzed on-device for offer text using on-device text recognition. Frames are not saved to disk, are not uploaded anywhere, and are discarded immediately after processing.
You can revoke this permission at any time from Android's notification shade (the persistent "screen is being shared" indicator) or from the App's settings, and doing so does not end your shift — Boon will simply stop reading offers until you turn it back on.
1.3 Camera (Receipt Scanning)
If you choose to use the receipt-scanning feature to log an expense (e.g., fuel, maintenance), Boon accesses your device camera to capture a photo of a physical receipt. This image is processed locally to extract text (amount, date, vendor) and is stored only on your device unless you explicitly export or back up your data yourself. Boon does not access the camera at any other time.
1.4 Location (GPS)
With your permission, Boon uses device location to track mileage driven during a shift, for the purpose of calculating cost-per-mile, business-mileage totals, and tax-deduction estimates. Location data is stored locally on your device as part of your trip history and is not transmitted to our servers except as part of anonymized, aggregate diagnostic telemetry described in Section 1.6, which never includes raw coordinates or route data.
1.5 Account Information (Sign-In)
If you choose to create an account or sign in (for example, via Google Sign-In), we receive basic profile information from the identity provider: your email address, display name, and profile picture URL. This is used solely to identify your account and, where applicable, sync settings across your own devices. We do not use this information for advertising and do not sell it.
Authentication is processed through our backend infrastructure provider (Supabase). See Section 3 for details on this third-party processor.
1.6 Diagnostic & Performance Telemetry (Opt-In)
Boon may collect anonymized technical telemetry to help us diagnose bugs and improve reliability — for example, which detection method was active, how long a capture session ran, whether text recognition succeeded, device model, Android version, and app version. This telemetry:
Never includes the actual text of any offer, fare amounts, trip routes, GPS coordinates, screenshots, or any personally identifying content from your screen.
Is used only for aggregate engineering diagnostics (e.g., "is a given Android version causing detection failures").
Can be disabled at any time in the App's settings.
1.7 Locally Stored App Data
Your trip history, accepted/declined offers, earnings, expenses, shift records, and personal threshold settings (minimum fare, target hourly rate, etc.) are stored locally on your device in an encrypted local database. This data is not uploaded to our servers as part of normal operation. Uninstalling the App permanently deletes this local data.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
Evaluate incoming job offers against your configured thresholds and display a verdict;
Track your shifts, earnings, expenses, and mileage for the analytics features you use;
Authenticate your account and, if applicable, sync settings across devices;
Diagnose crashes, detection failures, and performance issues (only where telemetry is enabled);
Provide customer support when you contact us;
Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
We do not use your data for third-party advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.
3. How Information Is Shared
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only in the following limited circumstances:
Service providers. We use Supabase, a backend-as-a-service provider, to host authentication and any opt-in telemetry described above. Supabase processes this data on our behalf under its own security and confidentiality obligations and does not use it for its own purposes.
Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or governmental request, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others, or to investigate fraud or security issues.
Business transfers. If Boon is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy (or a policy at least as protective).
With your consent. We may share information for any other purpose with your explicit consent.
Boon has no access to, and does not intercept, any network traffic between third-party driver platforms (Uber, Bolt, Lyft, DoorDash, or others) and their own servers. Boon cannot see your driver-platform account credentials, in-app messages, or any data belonging to those platforms beyond what is already visibly rendered on your own screen.
4. Data Retention
Locally stored trip, earnings, and expense data is retained on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App.
Account information (if you sign in) is retained until you delete your account or request deletion.
Opt-in diagnostic telemetry is retained for a limited period sufficient for engineering analysis and is periodically purged.
5. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable law (including the EU/UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act, and similar laws) to:
Access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you;
Withdraw consent for optional features (telemetry, location, camera, screen capture) at any time;
Object to or restrict certain processing;
Request a copy of your data in a portable format;
Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
You can exercise most of these rights directly within the App (deleting local data, revoking permissions in Android system settings, disabling telemetry, or deleting your account). For anything else, contact us using the details in Section 11.
6. Children's Privacy
Boon is intended for use by adults who perform gig-economy driving or delivery work and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect information, including on-device encryption (AES-256 via the Android Keystore for locally stored data) and encrypted transport (TLS) for any data sent to our service providers. No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. International Data Transfers
Where any information is transmitted to our service providers (see Section 3), it may be processed in countries other than your own. We rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses, where applicable) to protect information transferred internationally.
9. Third-Party Platforms and Terms of Service
Boon is an independent, passive observer application. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Uber, Bolt, Lyft, DoorDash, Uber Eats, Just Eat, Grubhub, Grab, or any other driver or delivery platform referenced in the App. All trademarks, logos, and brand names of third-party platforms are the property of their respective owners.
Boon reads only what is already visible on your screen and does not automate, click, or interact with any third-party app. Nonetheless, third-party platforms may have their own terms of service governing the use of accessibility tools, screen-reading tools, or overlays with their apps, and those terms may change at any time without our knowledge. You are solely responsible for reviewing and complying with the terms of service of any platform you use alongside Boon. We make no representation or warranty as to whether your use of Boon complies with any third-party platform's terms, and we are not responsible for any account suspension, deactivation, or other consequence imposed by a third-party platform arising from your use of the App.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties; Limitation of Liability
PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY. IT LIMITS OUR LIABILITY TO YOU.
10.1 No Professional or Financial Advice. Boon provides estimates, calculations, and informational verdicts based on data visible on your screen and settings you configure. These outputs are provided for general informational purposes only and do not constitute financial, tax, legal, or professional advice. You are solely responsible for every decision you make while using the App, including whether to accept, decline, or continue any job offer, and for verifying your own earnings, expenses, mileage, and tax obligations independently.
10.2 No Guarantee of Accuracy. The App relies on screen-reading and, where applicable, on-device text recognition, both of which can be affected by device performance, screen layout changes made by third-party apps, operating system behavior, connectivity, and other factors outside our control. We do not guarantee that any fare, distance, time, rating, verdict, earnings total, or other figure displayed by the App is complete, accurate, or up to date. Third-party driver and delivery platforms may change their app layouts or behavior at any time without notice, which may cause the App to misread or fail to read information.
10.3 "As Is" / "As Available." THE APP AND ALL CONTENT, FEATURES, AND FUNCTIONALITY ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ANY WARRANTIES ARISING OUT OF COURSE OF DEALING OR USAGE OF TRADE. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT ANY DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.
10.4 Limitation of Liability. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL BOON, ITS DEVELOPERS, OWNERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, EARNINGS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE APP — INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY DECISION YOU MAKE TO ACCEPT OR DECLINE A JOB OFFER BASED ON INFORMATION DISPLAYED BY THE APP, ANY INACCURACY IN FARE, MILEAGE, EARNINGS, OR EXPENSE CALCULATIONS, ANY ACTION TAKEN AGAINST YOUR ACCOUNT BY A THIRD-PARTY PLATFORM, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA — EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE APP OR THIS PRIVACY POLICY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US, IF ANY, FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) TEN U.S. DOLLARS (US $10).
10.5 Indemnification. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Boon and its developers, owners, employees, contractors, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your use of the App, your violation of any third-party platform's terms of service, or your violation of this Privacy Policy or any applicable law.
10.6 Jurisdictional Limits. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you. In such jurisdictions, our liability will be limited to the greatest extent permitted by applicable law.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or for other operational reasons. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by other reasonable means, and we will update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the App after any change constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
